8-OHdG (8-hydroxy-2'-deoxyguanosine) is a biochemical product of DNA damage, caused by an imbalance between free radicals and antioxidants in our cells. Excess of free radicals can destroy DNA. Free radicals are normally formed in our bodies due to biochemical reactions. In addition, exogenous factors such as UV radiation, tobacco smoking, air pollution, toxic metals and pesticides, can produce free radicals.
What is 8-OHdG ?
Benefits of 8-OHdG monitoring
8-OHdG and diseasesNumerous scientific articles reported that elevated 8-OHdG levels may associate with many diseases e.g. cancers, cardiovascular disease, neuro-degenerative diseases (Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer’s disease) and chronic inflammatory diseases. However, interpretation and diagnosis should be performed by clinicians or specialists.
N Health provides the quantitative measurement of urinary 8-hydroxy-2'-deoxyguanosine (8-OHdG) by Liquid Chromatography Tandem Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) which is the most reliable analytical method including high accuracy, precision and sensitivity.
