Biomarker of DNA damage:8-OHdG



What is 8-OHdG ?

8-OHdG (8-hydroxy-2'-deoxyguanosine) is a biochemical product of DNA damage, caused by an imbalance between free radicals and antioxidants in our cells. Excess of free radicals can destroy DNA. Free radicals are normally formed in our bodies due to biochemical reactions.  In addition, exogenous factors such as UV radiation, tobacco smoking, air pollution, toxic metals and pesticides, can produce free radicals.
 

Benefits of 8-OHdG monitoring

Use for measuring the effect of oxidative damage to DNA from both endogenous and exogenous factors
Use as a biomarker for aging and degeneration diseases
Use for follow-up of changes in the oxidative status in response to life style changes e.g. exercise, eating habits, supplementation or stress management
 

8-OHdG and diseases

Numerous scientific articles reported that elevated 8-OHdG levels may associate with many diseases e.g. cancers, cardiovascular disease, neuro-degenerative diseases (Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer’s disease) and chronic inflammatory diseases. However, interpretation and diagnosis should be performed by clinicians or specialists.​

N Health provides the quantitative measurement of urinary 8-hydroxy-2'-deoxyguanosine (8-OHdG) by Liquid Chromatography Tandem Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) which is the most reliable analytical method including high accuracy, precision and sensitivity.
